Preventing Fruit flies is going to be all about sanitation. The Fruit fly can find decaying organic matter and they will come in quickly when any is sensed.
Make sure all produce is washed when it is brought inside your house to remove any possible existing Fruit fly eggs. It is not a good idea to store produce for long periods of time because this will attract the Fruit flies.
If Fruit flies have been a consistent problem, it is recommended that an insect growth regulator (IGR) be applied once a month to help break the infestation cycle. Insect growth regulators stop the immature Fruit flies from being able to form into breeding adults.
